Wii U Release Update – January 2012
Once more, the launch date for the Wii U has been officially narrowed. During the last investors meeting, Iwata confirmed the console would be hitting the store shelves worldwide during weeks prior to Christmas.
Wii U Release Update – December
Nintendo has made available an official statement related to their appearance at the CES 2012, in which they confirm that console launch date will take place sometime “between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012.”, making it the second semester of 2012 the proper rephrasing.
Wii U Release Update – November
Nintendo has officialy informed that the Wii U won’t be released until the next fiscal year begins, that is April 2012. But wait, there’s more!. If we consider that Nintendo plans to unveil the final Wii U model at 2012 E3 (which will take place from June 5th to 7th 2012), it also means that we can only think of a release date from July 2012 onwards.
Wii U Release Update – June
Sega’s vice president of marketing, Alan Pritchard, confirmed in an interview that the Wii U is coming in either spring or summer of 2012, all this while saying why Sonic Generations’s release date was not in sync with the Wii U’s. He also stated that this particular game won’t be available for Nintendo’s next generation console.
Wii U Release Update – April
An official Nintendo press release reads that the new console launch will take place in their next fiscal year, which basically means that April 2012 will be the earliest month when the Wii U could be launched.
Wii U Release Update – Early April
The exact Wii U’ s Release Date is yet to be officially announced. We do know however, that the launch year is 2012, according to Nintendo official press release where they confirm there will be playable units of Wii U on the E3 Show. The exact words from Nintendo’s announcement are the following (Source: Kotaku):
Nintendo Co., Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system to succeed Wii, which the company has sold 86.01 million units on a consolidated shipment basis, between its launch in 2006 and the end of march 2011….

The wii’s graphics system is pretty terrible and the motion control isn’t accurate so let’s all hope the wii u is even in line next to ps3 and Xbox 360
its undeniable that the graphics are bad, but with the motion plus the control is amazing
you should play legend of zelda skyward sword
ive played zelda skyward sword and completed the game. and its the best game ive ever played. i would like it in hd and if the wii u can support wii games in hd that would be great.
If i want great graphics I wouldn’t get a Xbox or a PS3…both pale before the PC. My PC runs rings around them both and isn’t stunted by limited ability in multiplayer games, 64 players on a server? no problem. Plus flexability of mods and community content, means alot of extras in RPG’s etc……..when I play a console, I am looking for interactivity, and something to do ith friends at my house……Wii beats both hands down for that…..I thought the kinect might change that…but it hasn’t lived up to hype yet. Maybe there just hasn’t been the right game written for it. The Ps3….well it’s awesome for netflix, and as a multimedia/blueray player…..but that’s about it for me. If you have a bunch of people over and want a fun game for people of different abilities….Wii still beats them all, it’s the best party/family/friends platform……when I want to hardcore game, I’ll get back on PC, where my graphics card alone has more power (and more cost) then those so called more advanced consoles. I look forward to Wii U, and the possibility of new wii controller on a gun, making a really interactive and fun iron site type set up. There’s so many possibilities… right now Nintendo “gets it”.
Wouldn’t it not be an iron sight if you had to attach it to the new gun? Iron sights refer to the default metal sights that are a part of the gun. Jus sayin
haha jk
I have the Wii, 320 GB PS3 Slim, 250 GB Xbox 360 Slim with Kinect, The Nintendo 3DS, and the iphone 4. I think the PS3 or the 3DS have the best graphics. NOT THE WII!
Shut up that wat u think jeje
Why u have to talk **** about da wii only cuz u have all of those don’t mean u have to talk bad bout the wii ur crazii many ppl enjoy da wii so don’t bring them down unless u want them to bring u down boii the “wii u ” that cumin out is better than wat u have jeje.
BYEEE!!!!
The graphics capabilities can’t match what the PS3 can. It’s a FACT.
Ya well whatever you may believe about the PS3, the new Wii U will have way more power than all the systems out there currently.
dude. graphics are not everything.nintendo is about having fun not getting a headshot or having a kdr over 5. just play the dang games
Xbox 360 is best graphics don’t trust me? Watch on youtube:Xbox 360 vs Ps3 and search for graphics round from TechnoBufflo
Actually the Ps3 has better graphics. Its true the 360′s graphics card is slightly more powerful than the ps3, but your forgetting about the ps3′s processor. The ps3′s cell technology processor is powerful new tech that only uses a fraction of its resources for processing and then focus’s the rest on graphics. So even though the 360 has a slightly better gpu, the ps3 still wins in graphics. The only problem with the cell processor is that the new tech is still being learned and game developers are still trying to max out its potential. This is why exclusives by naughty dog or Guerrilla game studios looks so much better.
Any way back to the topic, I am seriously thinking about getting a Wii U. I just hope that Nintendo turns back to its roots of the glory days of the N64 and gamecube. Do away with the motion controls please. Motion controls are fun for awhile but a whole system based around motion gaming is not my cup of tea. Focus more on traditional fun gameplay like they used to and I will buy one.
I completely agree with everything you said about the wii. Yes, it is important to bring back classic gaming and also make a console NOT solely on motion-control. Nintendo’s president in Japan is hoping that Wii U will be a system that will draw a more “hardcore” gaming audience, but at the same time make something that will be a good family gaming system and something totally unique. They are also making more games based on past franchises like Mario, Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros. (yes they’re making another one), etc. I really think Wii U will deliver. I’m excited.
P.S. Sorry for replying with a freaking encyclopedia message… But its got good info!
Soooo excited!! :O
Actully 360 got best graphics, but Wii is made for games like Mario,Zelda… So who wants to play Mario with Nice Graphics? I have 360 and a Wii but I kinda discarded the Wii I no longer care about it ,but I miss when I used to play with my Wii but Its dead now bec of Move and Kinect so,iam getting a 3DS and Hopefully a Wii-U confused which one. Conclusion:Wii is the best console with epic nintendo games but everybody hates it and cares about graphicas
i think ps3 and wii are neck on neck. i really dont care for graphics, cuss as long as a game is good, graphics doesnt matter (i mean really, if u want good graphics, get ur girlfriend, and go to the beach and watch a sunset, dont stay in ur moms basement playin CoD). both consoles have great games that r fun to play, but for some reason, i choose wii because for me, there are more fun games. ps3 has good games like infamous and lbp, but wii has mario, donkey kong, zelda, etc. and its motion (yea i know psmove, but waste moar money for wat?) but yea, both consoles, i give u thumbs up and i cant wait for wii u AND ps4
…
Lol. Graphics does not matter. Many peoples favorite game is Minecraft, Terraria, or an Old NES game. Its the gameplay that counts.
This is just another example of Nintendo calling everyone else a ***. They don’t go for cutting edge because you just end up falling on your sword.
PS3 and 360 both use different betas of the same processor – but neither was really finished. The Xenon in the 360 is a 3-core version of the 9-core Cell in the PS3. The issue is that these processors have ridiculous theoretical performance numbers, 97 GFLOPS and 240 GFLOPS, respectively. Their actual performance faceplants however. 57 GFLOPS and 21 GFLOPS, respectively – and yes, the Xbox outperforms the PS3, numbers don’t lie (although the PS3 does have a nicer GPU, granted).
The issue is that while they have all these cores doing huge amounts of computation, IBM tried to get around the issue of I/O bottlenecking by introducing the “odd” core which is supposed to direct traffic in order to alleviate the jam in the northbridge. Problem is, that one core is just as slow as said northbridge – it can only handle two operations at once and must operate sequentially.
The POWER7 that’s going into the Wii U is a refinement of this concept – designed specifically to perform out-of-order multithreaded computations. The POWER7 is also already being used and showing off its muscle – which has a 4% margin of error compared to theoretical performance.
The entry-level POWER7 cpu should produce between 95 and 98 GFLOPS given its theoretical number of 100 GFLOPS. Nintendo waiting until now to implement slightly older technology ensures that their products remain economical, stable, but still very much relevant and future-proof.
Nintendo understood that they revolutionized the concepts of control-structures (Move and Kinect are ripoffs of the wiimote, don’t lie). They understood that no matter how hard they tried, MS and Sony couldn’t keep up with the Wii’s sales numbers, and that casual gamers and non-gamers make better customers than hardcore gamers.
Now they just wanna shut everyone up who gave the Wii *** about its paltry processing power. The Wii U will be on par with a top-of-the-line gaming PC.
tl;dr: In a perfect world where DirectX was opensource, the Wii U could play Crysis 2, full settings, perfect 60fps, better than ur computer, noob. Fanboys stfu, numbers don’t lie. As of January 2013 – your system will ***. Thank you, have a nice day.
Btzmacin….You beat me to it by 10 days rofl… I agree with you 100% Nintendo wants to appeal to casual gamers… thats why hardcore gamers get ticked off lol… I mean im a hardcore gamer… but at least I know what nintendo is doin and not complain about it. I expect the wii U to be awesome and outsell anything MS or Sony dishes out, because of casual gamers. I mean would anyone buy a playstation vita? Lol i wouldnt. I’d stick with the 3ds (because it has better titles than vita) get the wii U and buy super smash bros. 4 (rumble?) And be able to play it on either console. Nintendo gets it and will probably shut up the fanboys/hardcores while their counting their sales gross Lolz. Power7 ftw.
hi there i have ps3 4 gb flash drive xbox 360 and wii 3ds and psp go i like flash storage for faster game play less or no lag time and faster fps rates the ps3 hard drive soo slow i dont even bother useing it also iphone ipad lg thrill 3d phone comadore 64 dsi and a macbook air 2.13 ghz duo core cpu 4 gb ram and a 256 gb ssd solid state flash its instant on instant off
I am looking forward to the Wii U. Great graphics are nice, but the Wii U can return to more traditional gameplay. Mario doesn’t need graphics. Just look at galaxy. So all of you complaining about how the Wii is the least powerful current-gen console; shut up and stop whining graphic w****s.
Nintendo has always been about bringing the world something new, something that we haven’t seen remade a thousand times with better graphics. The Wii is old now, everyone knows that, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t fun. Nintendo made some of it’s best games for Wii, but people bash it now because the graphics aren’t amazing. At the time of it’s release, the Wii was considered revolutionary technology because of it’s innovative motion-controlled system. You cannot deny the fact that people were amazed that they could move and the game would react to it; it was amazing. You can be a graphics whore if you like, but I can say from experience that I was far more satisfied with my Wii when I bought it than my PS3 or Xbox 360, simply because the games are made to be entertaining. Of course, these other consoles have great games as well, but they just don’t have that particular quality that Nintendo uses to make their games so enjoyable. There is just something about Nintendo that makes it different from other gaming companies, despite it’s inferior graphic capabilities. Having said that, the Wii U is supposedly going to be able to produce 1080p picture quality, meaning that Xbox and PS3 may have finally met their match in the graphics department. For those of you who are saying that Wii has such bad graphics and it ruins everything, blah blah blah, the Wii U is going to change everything. Also, seeing as Nintendo will once again be incorporating a new piece of technology that no other gaming company has produced, its tablet controller, I am quite confident that Nintendo will have another huge success on it’s hands. That is what Nintendo really cares about, changing the gaming world for the better; and there will always be disbelief in the quality of Nintendo’s gaming experience, but there is no denying that it has always been an innovative and truly cherished company in the gaming world.
If it has anything even nearing the quality of games like mario galaxy and skyward sword.. i’m in. The latter was one of my gaming highlights of the last decade.
Nintendo understand gaming inside out. They might not always get it right.. but when they do.. my gosh they REALLY do.
I heard that the wii u will be released in mid to early may
dude.i think the 3ds has the best fucking graphic.but the wii is some cool shit
Seriously? Are we comparing the Xbox 360 and the PS3 with the Wii U? That’s unfair! The Xbox 360 is like 6 years older! But in my opinion, the Xbox is the best, but that’s because I only have a 360. Every console has it own great games, Killzone, Halo, Zelda, but I think that the Wii will always be the console for the casual gamer, and Xbox and PS for the Hardcore gamers! I think the Wii U is gonna be a nice console for the casual gamer, but Nintendo is definitly gonna try to reach the Hardcore gamers! So I’m gonna wait and see!
